Microcement or tiles? How to choose for your home
A practical comparison of microcement and tiles: look, cost, maintenance and installation time.
Microcement is a 2–3 mm polymer-cement coating applied by hand over existing surfaces, giving one continuous joint-free surface. Tiles, by contrast, are separate units with grout lines.
The biggest difference is installation: microcement goes over old tiles without demolition, saving days of work and debris. Tiles require removing the old surface and levelling.
For maintenance, microcement needs a protective sealer renewed every few years in wet areas, while tile grout needs regular cleaning.
Our advice: if you want a calm architectural look without joints, or you have old tiles you do not want to demolish, microcement is the answer. If the upfront cost is the priority, porcelain is an excellent choice.
